Ministry Focus

Supporting Tribal Church Planting in Indonesia

Personal Journey

Call to Christ:

Curtis – I came to know Christ as a teenager after reading through a gospel tract given to me. My life was changed forever through God’s redemptive power of His gospel of grace. Not too long later, God began to show me that my life was not my own, but now belonged to Him to use in whatever way HE desired.

Lesley – I grew up in the church since I was very young, but Christ did not become real to me until 10th grade at a retreat. It was there that I understood Christ was a real person who lived, died, and was raised again, and who could be My Savior. I placed my faith in Christ that weekend.

Call to missions service:

Curtis – In 1998, at a Missions Conference, the speaker talked about “things” that hold you back from walking with God. It was like God was asking me, “What is holding you back in your relationship with Me?” I knew there were “things” that were already trying to hold me back from following God with my entire heart. The more I realized and heard about the needs around the world, I felt burdened to reach those who have never heard of Jesus. I attended Bible School later, where the need for those who have never heard God’s plan, nor have the Scriptures in their own language burdened me even more.

Lesley – From the mandate given by Jesus in Matthew 28 and some short-term Mission Trips, I was burdened that the whole world needed to know Jesus and what He has done for each of us. After College, I attended Bible School, where Curtis and I were married and tribal missions also became a burden for me as well.

Fruits of Our Labor

(The Sewells are beginning their first term in Indonesia in July 2010.  Below are some of the fruits of their previous labor.)

  • Since finishing our training with NTM, God has provided us with many opportunities to share about unreached tribal people with individuals and small groups who had little or no awareness that such people even existed today.
  • Curtis and Lesley both have had several opportunities to be a part of short term mission trips in four different countries where some fruit was seen, but they hope for the day to see fruit that they had no idea about.
  • More to come…
