Personal Journey - Call to Christ
Jeff: While in high school, God opened my eyes to my sin and His love for me. I prayed to accept His free gift through Christ for forgiveness. I am amazed by God’s love that He sent His son to die for my sin. It is only by God’s grace and love that my life has been changed to live for Him.
Melanie: At the age of thirteen I surrendered my life to Christ. I was overwhelmed by His unconditional love for me despite my sin. Humbled, I prayed a prayer of repentance then acceptance for His will for my life. I am always amazed by God’s grace and love.
Call to Missions Service
Jeff: A few years ago, God burdened my heart for missions. He used friends that told stories of being on the mission field and seeing the need of the lost and unreached. God calls us to take part in the Great Commission. He has burdened my heart to go and make disciples of the nations by giving them His word, the very source of life.
Melanie: I had initial fears when Jeff first mentioned missions for our family. The Holy Spirit convicted me of trying to control my life and not trusting God completely. Increasingly I was burdened for the Bibleless peoples of the world. My call to missions was more gradual than most, but I know that God wants to use me for the work of Bible translation.
The People Groups
There are over 700 people groups in Papua New Guinea, our area of concentration. So far approximately one-third have any portion of the Bible in their own tongue. The translation and Bible production work continues, and great celebrations take place when the texts are presented to the natives. By and large, they are very appreciative to have God's Word in their own language.
The Ministry
After 2-1/2 years of living in Papua New Guinea doing on-site translation work and computer support, an opportunity arose for the Kittrells to move back stateside and continue t o support those efforts. With much prayer and team support, the repatriation and eventual relocation to Monroe, NC was allowed to occur in 2005. The Kittrells are not far from the JAARS support facility for Wycliffe and are becoming accustomed to the community there.
