Ministry Focus
Public Evangelism using creative means, especially music.
Personal Journey
The Lord called me (Todd) to Himself in 1995 while I was reading a Gideon Bible in a motel room on a business trip. I had heard the gospel for the first time ten years prior to that, but rejected it then. God let me see how miserable living in a self-led life could be. I was unhappy and unfulfilled until the night I decided to take Jesus at His word when He said, "Here I am; I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and have fellowship with him and he with Me." (Rev. 3:20) I realized that this promise was for me if I would just trust Him, and I did. Terri was blessed to grow up in a home with Christian parents and trusted Jesus as a child.
Call to Missions Service
Todd Smalley:
I began feeling a burden for the lost while in a mall packed with people. I realized that most of them probably did not know the Lord and that they did not even realize their need. As I grew in my faith, the thought of anyone spending eternity in hell pained me greatly. My first short-term missions trip to Europe brought me fact to fact with people who were thirsty for the truth, and I was thrilled to see God use my musical training in combination with evangelism to reach people for Christ. I knew then that God had made me to be His vessel to bring hope to a lost world.
Terri Smalley:
While attending a missions conference at CFC at the age of fifteen, the Lord began to draw my heart to missions, and I began corresponding with some missionaries. It wasn't until six years later that I went on my first short-term missions trip and loved it! After my fourth fourth short-term trip in 1995, I knew God wanted me overseas somewhere doing something! Being slow on the obedience end, I did little to make this a reality. In July 2001, I took some steps to confront my fears about the mission field, sought some wise counsel, and enrolled in a course about missions called Perspectives. As I confronted my fears, they began to dissipate, and my conviction grew stronger. Not wanting to disobey again, I applied with Proclaim! Along the way, Todd and I began dating...
Fruits of Our Labor
Todd Smalley:
I will always remember a prisoner in Kyrgyzstan who came up to me after we had done a concert in a prison there and asked, "How can I leave my sins?" He knew that when he was released from prison he was going to be fighting the same temptations and sins that had landed him there. I was able to share with him about God's forgiveness, and how He could change his heart. I am thankful that there were Kyrgyz believers who minister there in that prison and who, I pray, will reinforce this message.
Terri Smalley:
Junko is a young woman from Japan that believed in nothing. Through discussions we have had with her, she is now reading the Bible for the first time. One of our friends, who is Japanese, is also in contact with her and encouraging her spiritual development as well. This is a clear example of the body of Christ working together toward a common goal.
